For those of you daring enough to attempt to replace your master cylinder or brake booster, a new document is now available in the technical gallery that might help you out...

Hi, I am changing front brake pads on my 530xi with EBC semi metallic pads.
I plan to drain the brake fluid in the pistons to avoid it going back in the lines.
Want to know what kind of brake fluid I should use to top it off with (DOT4 etc). Manual does not mention it.
Also want to know if it's an overkill?

TIA,
prem

DOT 4 fluid. If you have never added brake fluid, or have no leak, you should not have to top off the reseviour.

Thanks 05545i, I did not need to add any, 'coz I decided against bleeding the fluid in the calipers.
Job done...
Moving on to coolant change next weekend.

I've looked at the brake fluid flushing and bleeding section and it seems as though it could be a bit more involved than the DIY procedures carried out by some members.
Does anyone know what "Run through bleeding routine with BMW Diagnosis & Information System" entails?
