Guys,

Please help.

I have a '04 E60.

This is my current steering wheel and airbag.

Now that I about bought this two items but they do not fit, at places that used to be flat, now the airbag has 'step', which is blocking me from mounting the airbag.

Even the software is Version 7.2, newer than the 5.0 found on my original module

Can I just buy a new mounting plate and just connect everything together?

I also don't see any separate ground cable that other guy described in another post.

What "step" are you talking about? Maybe you could draw it into the picture...

Thank you for reply.

The new air bag has these few steps, circled in red.

Therefore they are interfering with the pins on the mounting plate.

I see.

Have you verified that your msport steering wheel and airbag both are for pre-09/2005 models? As you should know the structure of these parts have changed in that production month/year.

I think the wheel is Pre Sep'05, but the airbag isn't. That's why the mounting on the wheel has protruding pins, I noticed that the newer mounting don't have those pins and the airbag that I have will fit.

Hence I wonder whether I can buy a mounting plate that can take the new airbag, and connect them up? And not sure whether should I use the New or Old module.

I saw your thread, I think my situation is the same as you except that my sports steering comes with a different mounting, and also I'm unsure about my airbag. And do you mine take a photo of the back of you airbag? Please.... If it is the same as mine....I think I just need a new mounting plate to work all these out, your module is also SW Version 7.2

Sorry I don't want to dismount the airbag, but I think it looks the same as yours because my backing plate doesn't have those bumps.
Note that the wiring might be different in post-09/2005 airbags than in pre-05/2005 airbags. Here.

Thank you!. I think that's what I need to know. Just need to find the same mounting plate as you guys have, the silver one without pins.

I had the same problem..Your air bag is for a newer model..All you have to do is buy the mounting plate from the dealer about $20. if i remember..Easy swap..Dont sweat it..Also unplug your battery so when you remove the air bag you will not get a warning light later. Another thing you will need to do is make the ground wire for the horn..Also easy..Good luck

Thank you.

So I have to add one more terminal since the airbag connector only have 5 cables? That additional terminal goes to the plate right? Do I need to swap any polarity?
