Removing the swirl flaps in a diesel engine
hmm..
I really wanna do this mod, but we just sold the E60 to my dad's new job, so it's now a company car, since he's driving ~1000 km's / week.
I don't know if I wanna make any major surgery on the E60 now, since we don't own it anymore. Tempting - but if anything goes wrong the CEO of the company (my dad) will be pissed, that's for sure
150.000 km's on the clock today actually, and we just got the new iPhone 3G snap-in adapter. The car run, and look like a brand new one.

Ready to do my flaps this weekend. I have all the bits ready apart from the M5 screws. Whilst in B&Q earlier I could not find M5 self tapping screws. For those of you who have completed this, is there an alternative sizing guide I can use.? Does M5 mean 5mm? In which case do I need 5mm * 10mm length?
Thx

In the UK, M5 is an oddball size, and not often used (M7 as well - another common BMW size!) hence the reason I tapped the shaft hole and used an ordinary M6 screw (not a self-tapper). You may find an Imperial screw to fit the hole, but you'll probably have to take the swirl flap housing down to your local DIY place to get the correct one.

Today I said goodbye for my swirl flaps.
"Legendary" Anzafin came to Kuopio and we took them out together
Time took about two and a half hours including coffee break.
Now I can sleep at night in peace.
THANKS A LOT Anzafin!

! It was nice to meet you Milko! And we also made it a mini mini meet
Welcome to the club Milko!!
Me and one friend of mine managed to do the job few weeks ago in bit over 3,5 hrs (2 guys, both rookies). I cleaned up the EGR for about 30 minutes. Wasn?t that dirty though.
Anyway, it was very easy to remove the flaps with ANZAFIN?s DIY. Thanks man!
What was the mileage in your car?
Did you check the condition of the flaps?
Mine had about 115 kkm on the clock and the flaps were dirty but the mechanism worked just fine. Didn?t really worry about the flaps that much, but it kind of easier to sleep now on. So, I got the engine remapped 1 week after the removal of the flaps! Now there?s no grip on rear axel....

I have now 139 kkm, but this engine is driven just 74 kkm.
The first engine broken 65 kkm with swirl flaps...
This happened two years ago with the first owner and warranty replaced the new engine. Nice!
I had also dirty flaps, but condition and mechanism worked fine.
But now all is well.
