Anyone ever remove the model badge on the back trunk before? On any BMW model?

I've seen several BMW's around with the 330i or 525i badge removed. Just wondering if that's a pain that involves body work and paint.

 

It's not hard, i've tried it myself. It's just two sided foam tape. Just use a hair dryer to warm up the surface and soften the adhesives then use a string about 18" long, hold it on both ends, place the middle of the string between the tape and the surface of the car and slowly pull each end back and forth in a sawing motion. Some of the tape will remain on the surface of the car but it can be easily be removed by applying liquip soap and rubbing it with a cloth.

 

I did it to mine...a local body shop charged me about $15 for a few minutes of work, and buffed off the gunk and adhesive underneath. In this particular case, the badge had already been on the car for 4 years, but there's no trace of it having been there.

Apparently it's easy to do yourself, and easier on newer badges; most folks recommend taking a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the adhesive, and work fishing line, string, or something similar, through the adhesive, like you're "flossing", to break it loose. Then a paint-safe adhesive remover can be used to get rid of whatever adhesive can't be removed by heat. Be careful not to get the area hotter than needed.

 

The easiest method is to chose this option when ordering your vehicle. BMW offers this as an option everywhere.

The option code for without model badge is code 320 for the E60.
I belive that 320 is the code for this on all BMW models.
