For those that have hard wired, do you leave your radar detectors hooked up in the car? I am in Texas and we are having 99 degree temperatures and I'm worried about leaving it hooked up on the windshield. Just wondering what your experiences are.

It never leaves the car, unless I take my other car out for a long road trip and need it in there. I have another mount in that car, so I just do a simple swap.

Outside of that though, it never moves in my E60.

I leave it in all the time too, and I'm in socal. I think this really comes down to the quality of radar detector you're using. Most of the major brands put their products through significant QA procedures in real world scenarios so there shouldn't be an issue. And if you have a no name detector, you might as well throw it out.

On the hottest days, I remove my detector from the windshield and just stow it elsewhere in the car.

Thanks guys, I have a Black 530I and it gets pretty hot in there. Just got my first radar detector ever and didn't know how heat resistant they were. Its a Escort 8500 (X50).

I leave my windows rolled up b/c we've been having afternoon rains which only go for an hour or so and I don't want a car full of water. But with the windows up it gets pretty hot inside.

I'm in Texas, and it's been hot as hell down here! I've got the same Escort 8500 x50, and I leave mine in the car all the time. Usually lasts about 3 months, before the suction cups need another lick to stick. Aside from that it sits well at the top of the windshield, resting on the rear-view mirror; keeps the vibrations to nil.

I have a Passport that is has been hard wired in my various cars going on 23 years. Always in the car, always on when the car is on.. Best money I ever spent. No problems.

I tried the Escort for a weekend; took it back, it bothered me that I had no clue where the threat was coming from. So I then got a Valentine 1 and hard wired it thanks to the instructions in this forum. At first I thought I had screwed up b/c the Valentine was going off constantly and I had to push the Mute button as it does not have the auto-mute function of the Escort. I then read about "logic mode" and set that up last night. Now when I drive by the auto opening doors at the convenience stores it still beeps but at the muted level. THAT I CAN LIVE WITH. So I'm happy. Thanks again for this forum. I was able to hardwire the detector in about 15 minutes, went right to the correct wire didn't even test it first, it was right there leading to the rear view mirror.

+1 That's one of my gripes about the Escort. I'm always looking around everytime that Ka buzzes. I may pass this on to my wife and get a V1. Btw, does anyone know if the hardwire for the Escort will work on the V1?
