Great set up.

I would mess with my 545I in that way.

I probably wouldn't get it back together the right way.

 

tdoczz, It is not a big deal. The harder part was to identify the wire with the juice. After that everything is very easy to install and remove.

 

Are you sure connecting the ground wire to the cars body is a good thing to do? Shouldn't there be another wire to tap into for ground?

I realize the V1 uses very little current so it shouldn't be an issue however that bothers me a little bit

 

I think it's pretty standard to use the body as ground for something like this. The entire body is hooked up to the negative terminal of the battery.

It usually will only cause a problem if you ground a component like a audio power amp. In those cases, you can get a "ground loop" which causes a whining noise through the audio system due to interference with the engine. To solve that type of problem, you usually have to either add an inline filter, use a common ground, or use the negative terminal of the battery.

 

Makes sense. I took mine apart and cant find the green wire. There's 2 bundles of wires which come into the area. One bundle from the drivers side and the other bundle from the passenger side. Which bundle is the needed green wire in?

I currently have taken the lazy way out and bought super long phone cord and ran it all the way from the V1 (and remote display) to the passenger foot area ciggarete liter socket. Hard wiring would be so much better but i want to make sure ot do it right.

The ground wire could any part of metal of the vehicle. The V1 instructions point to that. Plus the whole car is ground. Think of when you jumpstart a car. You connect the red (+) to the battery and the negative (-) to any part of the car.

jmcaiado, ME TOO, I had the same setup in my old E46. HEY what do you mean outside? Can you place some pictures?

 

The V1 is stored in a special box in the front bumper.
Rear protection is lost, but it is not important here in Portugal.
To interact with the V1 you need two acessories: The concieled display, and the Remote Audio Adapter.
