Don Juan,

Nice install. I haven't even ordered my car yet, but when I do, I will have to try this. It seems simple enough, and although I am only getting the 525, when I test drove it, I almost got pulled over for speeding. I think the cop was nice and saw that I was test driving and let me go on. Otherwise, I would have been caught. I don't usually speed, but the only problem with this car is that I felt like I was going 50 and the speedometer read 80. I know that the get up and go is not as attractive, but once moving, even the 525 can move.

Don Juan I love the install i just wish the detector was a little smaller and concielable, i get stopped alot, being young black with dreads in a black bmw people can be passing me in either of my bimmers and the cop will pull me over. So this is a needed mod for me but i would like to intergrate it in the shark fin and have it pop up on the idrive screen now if you can get that mod for me i will baby sit the two kids for ya so you can ride with the wife alone for a while, also check my previous post and let me know if these options work in your vehical. Thanks again for the pics

DJ, Thanks for going to the trouble to post the pics! I'll be copying this install when I get my car back from ED. Re. buddy's question, check out the StealthOne

To bad it doesn't support the E60 yet. Maybe if we all contact them, they'll see the demand. I have.

I was told the windshield's UV filtering poses problems for radar detectors. I do not have a V1 but am considering it. However, it appears to be true as evidenced by the fact that my electronic toll thing does NOT work through the e60 windshield(but does in every other car). Has anyone you heard about this?

Nice tutorial.
I'll have to consider it.
Thanks for all your work. I know posting pics and the write up is a lot of work.

Muy bien hecho. You obviously know your way around autotronics. My concern

is the distance vertical. Troopers aim laser for the license plate to get the reflective

paint and at 600-800 ft. a 4mm laser will disperse to about 2 ft in diameter.

Personal experience has me placing my detector lower to the dash so as to pick

up that beam. I used to have a Val 1 for years until I tried a Passport 8500.

Radar detection for both is about equal but IMHO the 8500 is better for laser. I

also recommend a good laser jammer[legal in Md.] In Md. laser is very popular.

Nonetheless Don Juan great executon of your set-up.

I have an Escort 8500 and its sensitivity is severely compromised by the intensity of tint at the top of the windshield. Effectivenss was down about 50%.

My rada is just under the tint. The additional tinting I added was to protected from the direct sunlight (here in Florida gets very hot) and to make it a bit stealthier. The radar has a clera glass to shoot.

Would systems such as the ACC on meeting vehicles trigger the radar detector?
