Makes sense. I took mine apart and cant find the green wire. There's 2 bundles of wires which come into the area. One bundle from the drivers side and the other bundle from the passenger side. Which bundle is the needed green wire in?

I currently have taken the lazy way out and bought super long phone cord and ran it all the way from the V1 (and remote display) to the passenger foot area ciggarete liter socket. Hard wiring would be so much better but i want to make sure ot do it right.
Did you ever get an answer to your question about the location of the green wire ? I found a yellow wire with green tracer, opposite colors of the one in DJs photos. . .hooked up connector...doesn't work.

I looked through the message stream and saw where another '04 545 owner hardiwred his unit using the green/yellow wire. I'm going to take another look at the harnesses to see if that one isn' in there somewhere. I'd like to connect it at that point, trying to avoid the work of routing the wire back down to the kickpanel area. Thanks !

hi there,

Do you have cut the green wire before fastening the blue device? I'm not getting any power to the V1.

Thanks for the help.

The red & black wire and the little black box is the A/C wiring that came with my V1. It sits normally tucked in and nice, but I pulled out for you guys to see

[B]You connect the red wire (Hot) into the green/yellow cable from the compartment. this is the one that has the juice and it is connected to the ignition on/off . Again all these parts are from my V1 kit. For other radars you could buy these adapter at Home depot or radio Shack

No, you shouldn't have to cut any of the wires. Make sure that the blue device (cramp-on) is tightly coupled. It will cut through the wire as it needs. What about your ground wire -- have you connected it, 2x-check to make sure it has a good contact point. I was able to install it on my 545i no probs; while I had grounding issues initially with my wife's Audi.

Hey thanks,

Got the wiring done, turned the car on and powered up the V1 with no probs. But then i turned off the V1 with the car on and now can't get it back on again. I checked the inline fuse and its ok. Do you think i blew some other fuse in the car. Please help.

Thanks

How did you ground your connections? What's it connected to?

Thanks Don Juan! Your DIY was very helpful indeed. I just finished hard-wiring my Escort/Passport 8500 X50 in my 2004 545i. The green/yellow wire worked for me. As far ground goes, there's actually a screw to the sunroof motor that's grounded. It's a lot easier to work with than the bolt. I'll post pics later tonight.

It was so easy that it inspired me to hard-wire my wife's 2007 A4 Avant Quattro as well. The problem was tapping to the right wire. I ended up using a the black/red wire to the sunroof motor. The red wire (of the black and red wires to the sunroof) control works as well. I grounded directly to the body frame via the overhead panel mount screws. Will post pics tonight.

The ground is connected to the hex bolt on the sunroof motor. The sunroof is working fine, i'll have to check the blue clamp-on. I also checked the inline fuse and it looked ok as well.
