Question regarding functioning of the audio system

Hi. I have an euro spec 525i E60, and would like to upgrade the sound system. I have read all the other topics on this forum, found them very helpful, BUT i didn't read anything about how the PDC, navigation, error sounds, etc will play after that. As far as i know, they all use the car's speakers. Does anyone know how these systems work, and can they explain it?
