Rubbish !

Was travelling with the wife today, and she tried to open the back door from the outside, while it was still locked. She must have used some force as it's come clean off ! Check the pics.

If anyone can tell me how I can fix this I'd be very grateful.......sounds like a "door panel off" jobbie.
If you check the door handle pics, it does not look like there are any cracks or breakages to the plastic lever mechanism.

..........Great start to the bank holiday weekend!

Your help appreciated guys.

Anyone who can help ?? I've had the whole door panel off in the last couple of hours, but the exterior handle door opening mechanism is not accessible from doing this.

This is really starting to annoy me. I don't want to go to the dealers, as I know they'll charge me ???$$$ just to look into it. And I don't know anyone else who would know.

Please help ! At this rate I'm going to have to look for a new door !

Your wife must be bionic or something. I've never seen this happened before. I guess paying a visit to the dealer is inevitable. Sorry, I don't have any better suggestion for you. Good luck!

Right........been doing a bit of searching on the other BMW forums, and apparently it is not an uncommon problem, caused by passengers trying to open the doors from the outside while they are still locked. So, my advice would be to turn off your phased opening of central door locking from the I-drive.
Now when I open my car - all the door locks open.

I know it's good for safety. but if it avoids this happening to you, then it's worth it.

Check out the post here from bimmerfest forum.

Door Handle Fix - Outside No open only http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=263608

Looks like I need a new Door handle carrier assembly. But even then, I would have no clue on how to fit it.

If anyone has the TIS on fitting one of these or how to get access to it then that would be much appreciated

There should be a bung hole (near the door handle) on the rear frame of the door for access, (where the latch mechanism is). Remove the plastic bung. I'm sure Rudy aka Beavis will have a TIS pdf posted shortly.

If she did this would be the least of his worries!
