Can you get an MP3 retrofit if you don't have the nav or pro audio (I assume Pro or Nav means CC and I think I'm asking if the M-ASK can do MP3).

Yes, you can get the mp3 retrofit but depending on your MY the CD-Player might not play mp3's.

Alrite Mick.. took my car in on thurs for the mp3 programming however the bmw specialist informed me they couldnt do it because the dension was either fitted incorrectly or it wasnt compatible with my car.. whole lotta BS!!!! My next step was to take it into the dealership to see how much they charge.. after reading your post not feelin very optimistic about it now. Here are the bulletins you are on about.. hope it helps mate. I have 2 different bulletins not sure what the 3rd is for.....

What actually needs to be done is set the Dension GW500 dip switches #1 & #2 up (maybe #6 if you daisy chain CDC) then bring to the dealer and do iPod interface coding to enable it and that's it.

Dension GW500 will announce itself as OEM iPod interface to the BMW programming station, you don't need to have MP3 enable since doing so (if it's possible in the car) only give you ability to play MP3 on the in-dash CD player. We have various member here that can't play MP3 on the in-dash player but have iPod interface enable and their GW500 works like a charm (all function like text and all) like member nigxdoof among others.

GL!

Forgive my ignorance, but what's MY?

So if I get the MP3 upgrade, maybe the only benefit that it'll give me is that I can see the track names if I get the Dension GW500?

According to Sytner in Coventry, I can't play MP3s. Mine is a 2005 525d with M-ASK.

Solution: Get the Dension GW500, throw it in and see if it works. If not, get the CD changer software upgrade. According to posts here, people have gotten MP3 track names and the like showing on the iDrive from the GW500 without the MP3 software upgrade.

Sytner quoted me ?150 for upgrading the software to accept a CD changer. The printout I have says "CD preparation". Googling the code suggests that it *might* be CD changer preparation. Hopefully I won't need the software upgrade.

Hi all, I'm new here. I just bought a '04 525d E61. I don't actually have the car yet. I'm picking it up on friday.

One of the first mods I had planned on doing on the car was installing a Dension GW500. In my previous E39 I had a car-PC with 320GB hard disc and my entire music collection on it so changing CD's is not something I was planning on doing again ever.

The E61 that I've bought has a CCC navi pro in it. I've made sure it had the navi pro because Densions site stated that the MASK models didn't support MP3 text and the CCC ones did. Not having MP3 text in my opinion is the same as not having MP3 functionallity at all. It's useles without it. Try browsing through your entire music collection without having an clue of what's a songs title..?

But I'm a little confused now. From what I've read here it wouldn't be possible to integrate MP3 in a pre 03/05 model E61 at all? Is this true? This would be a REAL bummer. For me even a reason not to buy the car at all... Please tell me I'm wrong and missed something here.

you can do the BMW iPod interface regardless of MASK or CCC. It's covered a million times here already
