DOT 4 is ether-based, so it's hygroscopic (it absorbs humidity), but it's practically uncompressible. Therefore it requires regular replacement (every 12-18 months), but it provides excellent braking feel. DOT 5 is silicone-based, and it's non-hygroscopic, but slightly compressible. It's a "safer" choice, but it does not work as well. Clearly, in an M5 (even if it's only the brakes) you want DOT 4. Quote from the article referred to below: "We won?t even discuss DOT 5 fluids as they are completely unacceptable to the high-performance [braking] enthusiast"

Thanks, great reading, very informative. I should've bled the rear wheels also. I'll replace the fluid when I change to stainless steel lines .

Soon, maybe I'll replace them with those cross drilled rotors similar to the front rotors.
Tomorrow I'll paint all 4 calipers red . And bleed the rear brakes since I'll be working on them anyway .

Thanks man. The front brakes do most of the job of stopping the car so I'll leave the rear brakes stock, for now.

That's what I heard too, but some said it seems to be a bit hard on the rubber brake lines so mostly they recommend a good pair w/ the stainless-steel braided brake lines, that will probably improve brake pedal feedback feel too.
To answer some questions, these are all that I used for the M5 retrofit:
2 Front Rotors
2 Calipers with Brake Pads
PM quad_m for availability/pricing if interested .
