Am planning to install LI laser jammer to my 535i. Has anybody else installed this or any other laser jammer, e.g. LPP, AL, or ZR3?

Trying to work out where to install the 2 front units. I suspect behind the kidney grill be best and make some custom brackets to keep them attached. Curious to know where and how others have done so.

As for power - is there a switched power source in any of the footwells that can be tapped into? Is there some sort of wiring guide or PDF docs that can be requested/reviewed?

TIA.

I have an Escort SRX, but I didn't install it myself. I have the two front jammers installed below the headlights, behind the grills. Unless you know where to look, you'd never know they are there. I've been hit with a laser a few times, and they've performed perfectly.

There is a rear unit with the SRX too, but I put that in the front underneath the license plate.

Note: this isn't a picture of my car - I just grabbed a picture I had to show the location.

I have to say, I am a bit skeptical about laser jammers. To be effective, they must detect and return to the laser faster than the laser merely bouncing off of the car. To be specific, the detector has to sense the laser, at the same time the laser is bouncing off of the car (it can't do it any sooner), then respond, returning the signal quicker than the laser bounce back to the officer. It seems extremely difficult to outwit the physics of this scenario (i.e., your jammer's signal making it back to the cop faster than the laser reflection.) I don't think I would want to trust that relationship. But hey, if it works for you, go for it.

They don't return anything to the laser gun - they diffuse the beam so it can't return.

That maybe, but my contention is that its too late. The signal has already returned.

I recently installed the K40 system, with both the radar and laser jammer. As for both the front and rear radar detectors, I managed to fit them nicely inside both the front and rear bumpers. The radar units dont need a clear line of sight and there is ample room behind the bumber shell to tie in these small devices. The REAR laser jammer is a license place frame so no problems there. As for the front laser jammer, this took a bit of planning and I managed to attach it in the dead center of the front bumper in the opening near the bottom. Both the unit and the car are black so you cant even tell its there.

The K40 comes with free standing LED's, which signal radar detection comming from either the front or rear of thet vehicle. I took some advice from this forum and installed the LED's in my turn signals. Looks very cool. Hopefully I can post some pictures soon.

Hope this helps.

Appreciate the replies and help.

bdkinnh - Did they epoxy glue the jammers or mounted them on somehow? I was debating about putting them in that area but am worried it might too low so hence was thinking about the kidney grills (but then that's not far apart enough). If you don't mind taking a pic when you get the chance and posting - that'd be real great.

jralber11 - Be kick butt if you don't mind posting pics. Love to see where you mounted them and how. Also where did you find switched power to tap into?

But yes the jammers work very darn well. I had Lidatek LE-30s on my E46 M3 and was just great. I recall getting zapped by a cop on the interstate and the dumbfounded look on his face driving past him several years back. I should've installed this much sooner but with my travel schedule now didn't think I needed to. But after getting 2 laser tickets this year - I've had enough. Kicking myself in the butt for not doing this sooner. Especially now that the local cops are using laser and not just the state troopers.

Good question - they're well hidden, so I can't see them all that well. All I can see is the front of the units enough to clean them. I'll take a pic and post soon.

I still don't know where they installed the radar unit - I can't find it! I know it's behind the bumper somewhere, but damned if I can see it. I know it works, though - spotted a cop over a hill and around a corner on the way to work today.

And yes - my laser jammers work perfectly. Got hit last week by a cop on the side of the road, even though there were people in front of me going faster. Guess he wanted to snag the BMW. Loved watching him try to tag me and then look at his laser gun and give up.
