I'm one of them. Car is 2004, 12/03 built. NO NAV, NO CDC. iPod kit runs perfectly. Car STILL does not play MP3. Car may need to be at least a 09/03 built from what I understand.
(I would love for someone that has an tested MP3 cd to send me one to know for sure, but I followed the MP3 DIY and it does not work)

Thx turbogate
I knew someone had done it but didn't remember who. The issue is the hardware... you can't run mp3 CD's but it will still recognize mp3's on the interface and the computer

Thanks for this great DIY and also the advice about the retrofit. I just put mine in today and had the dealer programmed the mp3 retro fit yesterday. Everything works well. The only thing I've noticed is that it takes forever to go from "CD1" to "CD2", etc. About 1-3 minutes. Is that normal?
Next I wasn't sure the best way to secure the interface so I used the included ties. I used the two longer ties to loop around the front. When this was complete however, the entire unit was secured to the top bracket that the CDC was housed in but.....since the interface has more depth than the available bracket, the entire unit was sliding forward.
I rectified this problem by using two smaller ties and securing the interface from the lateral screw slots to the side openings on the bracket...
Maybe I did something wrong, but it is nice and snug now....
Switching from CD1 to 2 doesn't take me that long, but I am already frustrated than when using CD2 (artists) and listening to a song, going back to root always starts me back at the beginning of the alphabet.
you can download the bulletin @ http://www.aftermarketbulbsshop.com/BMW-iP...bmw-ipodint.htm It should be fairly self explanatory. In the retrofit menu just select MP3
