My (05/05 build) E60 is now mp3 enabled. I took it to the dealership on Saturday and told them my in dash cd player would not play mp3 cds. 6 hours later I got the car back and they said it is now mp3 enabled. They told me that one of the techs had an mp3 cd and it worked in the car. But just to make sure I had left an mp3 cd that I burned, also on Windows Vista, in the car and I tried it out before I left the dealership. Sure enough my mp3 cd also worked. They updated my iDrive also but it's still sluggish going through the menus but then again that could be due to the cold start as others have pointed out. Haven't decided on getting the ipod kit yet. Just wish I could get it into the arm rest so that it is easier to get to my iPhone.
my dealer is stating without even verifying that my model year does not support MP3. My car was built in July05 and is an 06 model. I have sent BMW Canada a complaint and am awaiting their response.

I've been following this (and other threads) relating with the ipod interface, and lo and behold, my connector with the black an brown wires is empty also.
No guts! Would anyone know if this is a trend, or if it's normal? I called my dealer and they wouldn't tell me anything over the phone and "suggested" I come in so they could look at it.
Anybody? BUMP

Problem solved. When I received the MOST bus interface kit from Garry, it contained a small, two prong empty plastic connector. I neglected to unbundle some wiring in the CD changer bay, and when I did, there were two green wires, one being a fiber optic type. The two wires fit into the connector, which in turn fit into the back of the CD changer connector with the black and brown wire. All of this fit into the back of the interface. Thx to everyone who contributed to this thread. It pays to be patient.

Ok, I emailed Garry at BMW of Newport RI, and he said that the iPod adapter will work on my car, NAV has nothing to do with it. I can do the install myself, it's just that I will need to take the car to the dealer and have them update the software to that the iPod will work. I've read that the cost is like $100 + dollars. This whole thing was more about installing a BMW iPod adapter, and having it work than just enabling my in dash CD player to play mp3s.

Hope this helps.

After reading through this thread, I think there are two key software updates that are required for the IPOD adapter to work

1) MP3 CD update
2) Enable CD Changer update

If you already have a CD changer (and are replacing it with the ipod adapter), you only need to do #1.
However, if you only have the CD Changer prep or (no prep) I think you would need to have #1 and #2 done.

This is just my theory. Can someone confirm?

At least the Dealer have to enable additional source in the car, if iDrive not aware if you have at least CDC then prep or not it will not show on the source menu.

hi, can someone please help me out here...

I got the Kit a couple days back, from Roger.

My car is a 2008 520d, with 6.5" iDrive and single cd slot in dash, NO NAV, and CDC in glove box.

I unplugged my CDC and put in the ipod box. the plug fit in as is, without any modification to it - right from the cdc into the ipod kit.

Now, when i connect the ipod, it shows the "BMW" logo on the iPod, but on the iDrive, the CD option is disabled - not clickable.

IF i put in a mp3 cd in the single slot then it works fine, and i am albe to see all the mp3 files. When i go up to the "CD selections that time, it shows me as follows :

CD* CD1 CD2 CD3 CD4 CD5 CD6

as seen in the pic, i can see the options for cd1-6 but they are all disabled. CD* is the single slot playing mp3.

Please help me what is it that i should do now to get the ipod working?

Thanks a lot!

PS: Anyone have any idea why it shows as "CD*" to me when i play mp3 cds, on the bottom left corner of the idrive screen.? some screenshots i have seen of members here, they have "MP3" written, on the bottom left corner of the idrive screen.
