Well I guess I'll give it a shot. No other choice at this point since I've already installed the ipod adapter. I have an appointment for Thurs the 21st...we'll see how it goes.

You need the software upgrade which is included in the mp3 retrofit. Tell them you want the mp3 retro fit which should be free per service bulletin...Do NOT tell them it's for the ipod interface or they will charge you!! The guy you bought the part from should have told you.

Will, I definitely appreciate the info. From the information I've gathered, my current understanding is that I am unable to get the mp3 retrofit because unfortunately I don't have navigation in my build date 10/04 545i. And also by the way the service bulletin reads it seems you must be under warranty anyway (which I am not), stating "Warranty information: Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle Limited Warranty." But that's neither here nor there in my case as I don't think my car is capable of the mp3 retrofit.

Please let me know if you can confirm the contrary...I would love to be wrong in this case as it would save me a couple hundred dollars!
