i have one more question i had my bluetooth installed 2 weeks ago. over the weekend it went blank and it does not let me paired anymore its gray screen, when i take it in to dealrs to get it fixed do you think the ipod interface will be upgrded when they work on a bluetooth?
thanks again
thanks again
From what you mention regarding BT, sounds like it might be a matter of updating your software or activating BT again and do kind of a reset to your iDrive (Don't know, perhaps your TCU went belly up).
Based on what you mention, I would not mess around with installing the iPod interface yourself, they might claim the BT functionality error caused by your DIY installation. It all depends on your SA/Service dept.
I've heard about members in this forum going different ways regarding the DIY install for the iPod interface. Some have not removed the glovebox and that is the easiest way. Some other remove the glovebox and that might take some more skill and more time.
On my personal experience, I removed the glovebox and followed all the installation instructions and comments from forum members, it took me a good three hours plus to do the complete install (Took me a while, I know). By the way, might be common sense but those pads with adhesive that the iPod interface comes with, both are for the top side of the unit, to kind of glue it to the top metal part of the CD changer housing, then you use the straps to keep it there. I did not see that little piece of info anywhere here and it took me a while to figure it out (Duh!).
Good luck

No they won't, unless you tell them to. They need to go into the retrofit menu in PROGMAN to enable the iPod interface.

The iPod install itself is very easy. Search the site for the DIY instructions. I even posted the correct part number for the cover that fits over where the CD changer used to sit.

What year car, CIP level and do you already have a CD changer? Depending on those, you may need a re-coding.

thanks ... My e60 built is 07/04 it does not have cd changer but it does have changer ready as far CIP level im not sure what i have .i do know they did some kind of upgrade 2 weeks ago when they activated bluetooth i noticed some changes on idrive like map radio etc . How can i check what level CIP i have ? thanks again i will post after ipod installed.
However, I believe from what I have read on this forum, the only way that the iPod adapter will be recognized without a software update is if the CD-changer was already installed. Even if you have the most recent PROGMAN, your car's CPU hasn't been told to look for the changer/iPod adapter. That little piece of coding will have to be done by the dealer, but BMW NA's stated install time is .75 hours. Don't pay more than 1 hour's labor for the encoding, especially if you do the hardware install yourself.
