at the bmw connector side,a wire is suppose to be connected in between the grey and purple wire(empty slot),that wire i'm suppose to insert is using wat kinda contacts?sockets?pins?u have a part no for it?thnx in advance
1. All the info is in the previous posts. Including photographs of the connector types. They are standard 0.1" modular connectors for use on PC boards. You can find them on http://www.maplin.co.uk , product code YW25 (enter without a space) if you are in the UK. I have searched RadioShack's site for the US without finding anything, but it may well be there.

2. Be careful that there may be TWO empty slots (if you have an E61). The wire needs to go in the socket marked with #39

Yes, YW25C is the same thing.
If you need the housing to go into the switch, then BX97F is the three-way one.

And if you do get the Maplin housing, you'll need to grind down the little "stubs" (and possibly the housing itself a little), as it's a very tight fit. I used a Dremel sandpaper drum, but a Stanley knife will do as well.

Hi,

Will the switch only open the boot if the ignition key is turned ON?

No, the switch will undo the boot at any time, ignition on/off, central locking on/off.

I suppose there is a security issue here in that someone could break the window and reach down to pop the boot (OK, the alarm would go off). I haven't tried sitting in the car until it "goes to sleep" and tried the button then!! That is assuming the person knew about the boot switch as its not visible from outside and is unobtrusive even with the door open.

Once the car is locked from the outside (no need for it to go to sleep; just open a front window and lock it, preferably deactivating the alarm), the switch is disabled. If someone starts breaking glass, they may as well go for the rear window and loot everything out of it anyway :'(
