hi again

sorry for the earlier post. seems someone 9namely me) didnt look properly when on his back in the footwell. ive found the proper connector now and have hooked up the boot release switch.

just need to know which unit is the light module, so i can hook up the illumination. if anyone has a pic that would be really helpful please. i also bought a copy of the BMW wiring disc from ebay but its not that clear which unit is the A3 light module.

thanks again.

[font="Comic Sans MS"]In my original post, look at the second picture. You will see a black box next to the grey box. This is the lighting module. Pin 43 of the large plug that fits into this black box is the feed used to control switch lighting. The wire is Grey with a Red tracer. (With thanks to dlevi67 for this information!). Use a ScotchLok or similar to "piggy back" the wire to go to the release switch - see dlevi67's earlier post.

ok looks like ive found it then. after looking through the posts again. its seems it may actually be the first plug connector i unplugged originally. (my pic in my earlier post of the 80 pin plug?)

cheers

Hey AlwynMike,

Thanks for the DIY. Three years ago you posted this to the day and it's still being used and appreciated! A simple and useful mod. Cheers

Thanks for the info on this, I too have a working release button with illumination on an E60 M5.

I thought i'd add some info.

The part no in UK is now 61 31 9 200 316

The Switch connections are;
(the pin numbers are printed inside the connector)
PIN 1 Illumination (connect to PIN 43 GREY/RED of White plug of black box
PIN 2 Ground (connect to chassis ground)
PIN 3 Switch wire (connect to open location between PURPLE and GREY Third location from the end in Black olug of grey box)

Thanks Again to AlwynMike

Guys, what a fantastic DIY. Can't wait to have a go at it.

Just one question re the scotchlok for the switch illumination, is there any specific connector you'd recommend, I have a few 560B connectors, I presume they'll be OK? Or will I have some issues with the size of the insulator? (Sorry for the paranoia but it's the first time I'll be cutting into the wiring of the car and I'm being cautious!)

Just a quick reply lad's,I got the switch today and paid a whopping £25 for it from my main dealer! Is this the right price as it seem's way over priced for such a small item.

I thought a Tenner was expensive - but that was three years ago!

Perhaps Herr BMW has cottoned on to all the retrofits and is making a quick profit....
