A question for all the roundel techies: since the I-drive monitors the oil condition and adjust the next scheduled service date according to the condition of the oil, then what would happen if I NEVER reset the i-drive system after changing the oil? When the new oil and filter are installed, wouldn't the monitoring system find the oil in acceptable condition and at least in theory, adjust the next scheduled service date accordingly?

It doesn't actually analyze the oil. It just uses an algorithm based on average revs, speed, temperature, cold starts, etc. to determine when the oil "should" need changing (in BMW's opinion, which encompasses making the car last through the warranty period but not necessarily longer).

So if it's not reset, it still will say you need an oil change.
