How do I sync my phone address book to my iDrive?

New MOTO Droid, old Omnia, and all previous MOTO BT phones have paired and successfully transferred phone books to my BMWs from my 2001 740i to present 2007 e60 530xi (more than 200 contacts).
Many phonebook transfer and BT pairing problems can be traced to phone firmware needing an update.
