Has anyone had a problem with one side of the hood getting loose and allowing the hood to have "play?" This has happened several times with the dealership fixing it and now, with no more free maintenance, I'm certain that I can fix it if someone can tell me how. I believe that the two metal rectangular bars on the sides near the front of the hood is what I need to play with. It seems to me that one can snug up the hood by adjusting the length of the bar. BUT how do you do that? Can someone help me? Thanks.

Nobody knows? Or is it so simple that the question defies and answer?

for those 2 metal parts, the black plastic can be pulled straight off after taking out that screw. from there the 2 metal pieces you are referring to are like screws, and you can turn them one way in the direction of taking them out (or lengthening) or the other for putting them in (shortening). hope this helps.

Thanks again to NeRwEEzy for his reply and answer to my question. It's hard for me to believe that I am the only one to experience this problem and desired to adjust the hood "by owner." I asked the same question on the forum on BMW CCA and received no replies. Oh well; at least I achieved my goal - the hood is adjusted!

Mike,
I had the same problem the day I purchased my CPO in Feb. It was not an adjustment, it wasn't latching, the latch on the drivers side was sticking due to dried and gummy grease on the shaft the spring loaded latch pivots on. Degrease it and regrease with a light lithium based grease. You can test it by just pushing down on the latch and seeing if it returns under it's own spring tension.

Thanks for the tip. The latch mechanism on mine was absolutely free of debris and I could latch it by hand easily. I still have some play in the hood even by turning the rectangular bar, but it is more acceptable.
