Help!! My i-Drive turned blue after I installed the RGB Interface completely. Now I took it back out and might be going to see my dealer. Anyone have any idea what could have caused this? I'm about to cry...

I assume you've seen this thread that has some .pdf links dealing with the central information display (CID).

One .pdf of interest may be the first one in that post (the one from Sharp). On page five of that document, it goes over each pin on the input terminal for the screen. Maybe something happened to the wires that control the green and red signals?

Not sure -- just taking a stab at it. Maybe Dom can offer some suggestions...

Good luck!

But where are those pins and stuff? Anyways, I'm not going to bother to play around with it, I think its best if I bring it to the dealer. If they find out that I've been snooping behind the iDrive screen, I'm gonna have to pay for it. Any idea how much its gonna cost? Also, my central lock doesn't work anymore, my key's remote is not working as well but this maybe due to the fact that I drove in heavy rain yesterday.

I had the same.

I turned out that the mask was broken. It had to be replaced (1800 Euor).

Wouldn't it be replaced under warranty? Why did yours break all of a sudden? But if the MASK is broken, audio and iDrive shouldn't work right? Mine works perfectly fine, only displays incorrectly. How about yours, Harry, did everything work fine like my car too?

Hard to say exactly what's happening here. Clearly there are individual signal wires/circuits that handle blue, green, and red on the display panel. From the symptoms, it seems as if only the blue signal is working. Couple this with the fact that you were messing around with wires as you installed Dom's interface and it's a safe bet that something happened to the wiring.

As you said, if the system is working (except for the color issue) it's probably not a dead M-ASK unit but then again, I suppose anything is possible.

If you're sure there is no issue with wires (did you try jiggling the wiring behind the CID while it's powered up to see if you get any flashes of color?) then it's pretty obvious that you're going to have to have the dealer sort it out.

As far as warranty, it's common sense that if they can show that the failure is due to your "customization," then it's not likely to be covered. On the other hand, if it's not evident that you were messing around back there, then it might be covered...

Well I've covered my tracks real good. I mean unless the dealer goes through the wire inch by inch by inch, of course that would mean removing a lot of original BMW cloth tape originals and the ones I placed there to cover my tracks, they will never find what I did. Hopefully its as easy as changing the LCD out. If it requires changing of the M-ASK, it might cause problems, as they'll probably install new wires and take out the original wires to find that I tapped in a few places.

Everything worked fine exept the colours went wrong. For exeample, under PDC the green bars went blue. That was disgusting.

The mechanics at the dealer had no idea, how this could happen. They spoke with munich and had to sent the MASK there. Then they got the right to replace it under warranty.

My friend had retrofit an E60 Interface at his bmw-dealer. Few days later his CID was complete black. He also got a new CCC.
