GAS CAP Indicator

Has anybody had their gas cap open indicator light come on. MY 530I 2006 gas light can on then went off I went to mechanic and they change the gas cap and now the light comes on every two weeks or so and then disappear as nothing happen. Do anybody have an ideal what this could be my gas consumption is good.

Why did they change the gas cap in the first place? The replacement cap or gasket may have failed or is not the proper part. You should contact a BMW dealer since, if required, that item's replacement may be covered under the US Emissions Warranty [longer in years and miles than the original new vehicle warranty]. ??? Are you in the US - your profile doesn't indicate location ??

Yes Im in the US and the mechcanic calm the gas cap could be defective and a replace it with a new gas cap and now I also get a service engine soon light come on.

i had this

and sometimes it can be the gas cap

in my case it was a pump that was faulting

dmtl pump is what its called and was a vapor leak detection pump



heres a lil light reading on it

so lately my "gas gap warning" has been coming on randomly at start-up...more so when the tank is full.
is the dmtl pump at fault?
i have an 06 550i, how hard and how much does it cost to replace?
