Changing the footrest is one of the simpliest mods that can be done in our cars, but I decided to make a little writeup anyway about how to do that. I took pics along this massive process so maybe they help too if anyone is keen to do the same to his/her car.

Thanks to mhs525 and Cwest for guiding me.

Stuff you need (or at least they help):
- razor blade knife
- pliers
- strong thick glue
- Dremel or similar (I have a cheap replica ) helps a lot
- new footrest

Process:
1) Dismounting the original footrest (shredding it into pieces!)
2) Putting the new one on

---------------------------------------------------

1) Dismounting the original footrest

The original one has been glued very strongly into the carpet. Only clip that is holding it is in the up end. Check the clip in your new footrest to see what kind of it is.

Cut the side open on the footrest to get the razor blade knife under it:

Cut between glue and carpet pile to loosen the footrest. I cut the footrest in pieces when I got further with the knife:

Here you can see stripes where the glue was:

Unfastening the clip in the up end was just wiggling and waggling the footrest to left and right.

2) Putting the new one on

You can see the one and only clip in the red circle. I used Casco Fix-It Construction glue to attach the new footrest. I used the same glue in my swirl flap operation to mount the blanking screws!

Glue:

Slide the up end into its place and push the footrest hard onto carpet. Mine attached immediately.

Now it looks ok with my MOMO pedals:

As I was told, removing the original was a real pain in the a**, and it took about 40mins. Putting the new one was 5mins.
Have nice modding.

Great write up! I just have the screw-on ACS rep. dead pedal. I didn't even know that the foot rest can be removed!

I would like to say: No it can't be removed, it can be DESTROYED!

Great DIY, thanks Antti

I destroyed my original footrest with hot-air blower... maybe little dangerous, but I got it off one piece..
