The Vaseline will knacker your seals in the long run. It will cause the material to perish and fail.

I had this noise with mine and its only 3 months old. The dealer solved it immediately by cleaning the seals.

Apparently I had used a cleaning product with silicone in it and that had caused a build up on the seal that rubbed on the frame.

Whatever he did it worked and the car is now silent. If the noise comes back I know to just clean the seal with a silicone remover.
this stuff is oil base so it will last longer and will stop the rubber from going hard too.
I have put this stuff on all the rubber seal and they are much softer now.

While I've not used Vasoline for this purpose but feel it is a good practice to use a product like gummi pfledge to protect rubber / vinyl (NOT Armorall) seals and gaskets on doors and such. They will help them remain soft and pliable and do their job longer.

It's not cheap, some BMW dealers stock it, but it takes very little and lasts quite some time.

In-between 2x a year treatments and after washes I use a plain silicone spray around the door seals.

Just thought I'd resurrect this thread to say this works!!!

Seriously, just put it on the top felt seals, wipe off any excess and no more squeaking! I was skeptical, but our man from the HK came through!

My dealer implemented the teflon-based fix in the Service Bulletin.

The squeaking has stopped.

the other thing you can use is armor all, and it doesnt promote dirt to stick like vaseline.
