Hi Guys,

had to do this for the group buy guys, so i thought I might aswell add this to the DIY section.

As to the mod itself - would i do it? Yes I would. It looks great. Obviously a plug/play would be to take LCI mirrors but considering the amount i save if I had bought it from the dealer (1200 EUR MORE than what we paid for this group buy), I am happy with the extra bit of work (of fitting a non-lci mirror on a lci car)...

One more thing: guys - you are old enough to be held responsible for what you do, so don't hold anything against me. This dyi is just a fyi.

thanks

I just installed 07-08 M5 mirrors on my 2010 535i using this diy. The diy was very well done. Thanks. Fortunately the connectors were the same and I didn't need to do the wiring part of the diy. I did want to add that BMW apparently changed some of the sizes of the screws and I had to use a size 30 torx bit. I found using a rachet to disconnect the battery cable as well as to remove the torx screws holding on the mirror to be easier than a screwdriver given the tight working conditions.

I would also add a word of caution when removing the old mirrors and inserting the new ones to be careful with the rubber gasket around the window. I inadvertently pulled it away from the window while working on the first mirror and it was somewhat of a pain to get back in.

This thread has been buried for a whiles but it contains great information. Given that I'm also about to do the mirror swap, I'm dredging-up the thread again. Thanks for all the useful info guys.

I'm sort of doing the opposite. I want to retrofit OEM M5 mirrors with autofold on a pre-LCI that doesn't have autofold. If anybody have and links, please send it my way. Thanks!

Can anybody tell me if this is the switch I need to change to? Is auto dip the same as autofold?

Why do you need the switch? Don't waste your money (like i did!). Just get the folding option coded to work with your key. The mirrors auto unfold at over 20mph anyway. The only time when you will need the switch is while you are driving the car you intend to fold the mirrors.

That's exactly the reason. When I pick up the kids at my in-laws, they have a very narrow section of the driveway I have to go through so I can park my car in their back yard. Before I go in, I would get out, fold the mirrors, drive in, then unfold them when leaving. I got sick of doing that I eventually just gave up and started parking my car in the street.
