Hi Unregistered......
The airbags for the E60 'M' sports steering wheels (M5 AND non-M5) are exactly the same!
The only situation when you would have to consider getting a new airbag would be if you had the STANDARD steering wheel which has the 'hexagon' airbag (for want of a better phrase!)
All the Best

Iceman: assuming I get this done, how about me coming over to Frankfurt and meeting up with ya?? At some point, I'll be driving to the UK from Prague and I could stop off.
IN GENERAL======
If you have a Steptronic car AND a heated steering wheel, then my mod will NOT work at the moment.

So you would need to take the airbag and the strip with buttons from your old wheel?
So what exactly did you do to make it work or do you wanna keep this a secret?

Thanks for looking into that Hobi! ( heated steering wheel problem )...
If on your way back, you're anywhere close to Maastricht - you can also drop by
me...
Again, impressive mod.

Hi Flavio
That's exactly what I did - I used the existing multi-function buttons and plastic trim from the old 'M' Sports wheel, since the basic shape of the old and new wheels were the same.
As you will have seen from a previous post, I have not been able to test this mod on a car with steering wheel heating - in fact, I don't recall it even being an option for UK spec cars. So, until I get to see Iceman's car or other, I can't be certain that this mod will work in all cases. Watch this space! I've been in touch with Iceman and we'll be meeting up in the very near future.

I normally go towards Koln and then Aachen, Liege, Brussels.... Yeah, I got no problem going to Maastrict - I'll let you know exactly when I'll be travelling. I looked at your pics of your car - great!

Hi
Having connection problems at the moment and am connecting using dialup
Iceman, Andy545, alpineweiss:
You are correct - the wheels are exactly the same fitting and because I like you guys, I've ordered a set of SSG Push/Pull levers so that I can make up a small wiring loom converter so that you'll be able to replace your levers with the M5 ones.
However, can you tell me if the current ones on your car have lights in them???
Iceman: assuming I get this done, how about me coming over to Frankfurt and meeting up with ya?? At some point, I'll be driving to the UK from Prague and I could stop off.
IN GENERAL======
If you have a Steptronic car AND a heated steering wheel, then my mod will NOT work at the moment. I haven't been able to find anyone that I know that has steering wheel heating in the UK, so I can't do any testing/developing.? Anyone out there help with this???
E60Speed:? The M5 wheel part number (wheel rim ONLY - no trims etc..) - 32.34.2.282.862 -----? the UK cost is ? 361.71 + VAT (17.5%)
The M5 paddles are:
LEFT - 61.31.7.836.557? -------? ? ? 98.73 + VAT
RIGHT - 61.31.7.836.558? -------? ? ? 98.73 + VAT
Personally, I have no problems if the levers are on the wheel or the column.? My only gripe (and it is only a small gripe) is that BMW should make the levers from metal.? I think that on such an expensive car, they could have afforded to get metal levers made.? No doubt somebody could do it - if so, let me know
All the Best, and sorry for the delay in replying.
