DIY LCI M5 Mirrors on 3-plug pre-LCI E60
Don't know if this has been covered yet, but I recently installed LCI M5 mirrors on my pre-LCI 3-plug 5er. There is a DIY on how to put LCI single plug on pre-LCI single plug E60. But nothing regarding the 3-plug from what I could find.
The reason you can't just swap everything over to the LCI mirror from the pre-LCI 3-plug mirror is because the motor mounts differently. The motor works the same way and will accept both M5 and non-M5 mirror glass.
Pre-LCI 3-plug motor
Note the 3 mounting holes. The other motors mount with just a single screw in the middle.
Essentially what you have to do is just measure, drill and tap 3 holes in the LCI mirror carrier to mount pre-LCI motor. You also have to grind 2 areas down. 1 for motor clearance and the other so the motor can be plugged in. (LCI plugs from bottom, Pre from the side.
Holes are in RED. Areas to be ground down in GREEN. Don't use this as a template. Not actual dimensions.
Once that's done all your pre-LCI wiring and motor can be installed on the M5 mirror.
All I have to do now is figure out where the 2 auto-fold wires go on the door module.

the positions to plug the wires into the door module is dead easy to find in the WDS. I'm assuming you have extended the motor wires out of the mirror and into the plug. The fold wires are not on a separate plug and is in the plug with 6/8 pins.

question
I see the the controller for the windows, door locks and mirrors on ebay and they have the extra button for the fold in's. Will that work as far as the extra wires you have for the fold ins? Hey I want to do the same to my 07 550i where did you get the m5 mirrors

Thanks Bruce. Yes I did extend the wires and I did notice the plug with the 2 empty slots. I just haven't got around to checking the WDS. Also that plug, is there a special pin connector that needs to slide into it? It appears to have some sort of yellow block-off.

I have all options working on my car. Minus the auto-fold because I haven't hooked up the 2 wires yet.

Hey Bruce, just wondering if you could shed some light on the auto fold. The 2 auto fold wires plug into the #6 slot on the X01050 plug on the door module. Just wondering if there's some sort of extra clip that holds these 2 wires and if you would happen to have a part# for me. My X01050 plug currently has a yellow block plate covering the #6 slot as I stated before.
