LOL... Actually, I dont know why I need heated rear.. but its just a nice feature to have, good selling point if I sell the car.

But I go snowboarding a lot, so its useful for the passengers I have. happy passengers is a happy driver. =)

Hmmm I wonder has anyone retrofitted the fold down rear seat ever.. hmm... that would be useful.
forget the passenegers. LOL. i would love to retrofit fold down rear seat

Do you think you can do it for the rear seats? I am definitely interested in that. =) I have the cold weather package, but no rear heated seats.
+1

Do you have a link I can see to order this part?

Edit: and what about OEM heated rear seats? Just an element in this (retrofittable?) or completely different back and bottom?

I got them from this dealer on ebay.

His price seems to vary as I got them cheaper than this but when I bought the ones for our golf a few years ago they were more expensive!

Seen this dealer too.

Switches look more like mine but I guess they may have changed them at some point. The pads look the same though.

to be safe, i used these on the rear of my 535d

they are "carbon" elements so will move and flex unlike "electrical" elements, BMW use carbon elements as standard

you will not be able to use the BMW OEM switches as these have the 3 way adjustment, and would be a wiring nightmare.
be very carefull using heated pads with the electrical eliment because if they break through or expose any part, against the metal wires that hold the leather seat covering, they will short out and risk possible fire etc,
the wiring was relitivly easy, but placing the heat pannels is quite difficult, the bottom seat pannel is ok, but the back pannel is very difficult if you want a good finnish and not have "baggy" leather

my advice is get them placed in by a auto upholsterer, and then get them wired up by an auto electrician.
i used mark at cartronics in byfleet near weybridge surrey uk, phil ran the wires to the cigarette lighter, and i bought the OEM plate from BMW that replaces the cubby slot (i used the twin cigarette holes for my switches) and blanking plates for the oem switches.
now the kids are tostie warm also.

That looks like a good kit.

Might add these to the rear at some point but my 3 kids are still in baby car seats just now and I ain't fitting them to those LOL!

Like Dave pointed out you need to be careful not to stress the elements particularly where the thin bars are across the seat that keep the covers tight. I made sure there was nothing that could dig into the elements in these areas as daily use will stress them to some extent.

Had these fitted to our golf for years now and they still work faultlessly.

Hi, anything special to be aware of fitting base heating pad where Airbag seat occupancy sensor fitted?

Can you get the leather seat cover off the base without removing the seat ok?

Any help much appreciated as about to take the plunge and try to fit these: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...em=370143842093 - ?59 all in.

Thanks, Steve

I didn't completely remove the seat covers. I only opened them up enough to get the pads in. I presume the sensors you mentioned are between the foam and the metal frame as I didn't see them as I just slid the elements between the top cover and the foam.

The seat occupancy sensor is still sensitive enough that if I press the passenger seat base firmly with my hand the seatbelt light comes on while driving.

On the golf I removed the seats and in some ways that made it easier but they had airbags in the seats so you had to be very careful. There was rumour that if you disconnected the seat looms without disconnecting the battery 1st that this could cause errors of some description. So on the e61 I chose to leave them in.

I'm 6ft 2 and found I had enough room to work by sliding the seat forwards or backwards and make sure you have plenty of room to open the doors! I did get a lot of grazes on my forearms though from feeding the elements in as it was tight. Looked like I'd been attacked by the neighbours cat! Was worth it though
