I freaking love this forum, just purchased my fuel filter and I'll be changing on my 545 tomorrow. Wonder how dirty mine is, I'm at 127,000 miles.

Just replaced mine, some fuel seeped out of the main line and it was DARK black, gross. Make sure you tighten the collar nut real well, I had a leak in mine because I didn't tighten it all the way with the hammer/screwdriver. Better to do this job when your tank isn't full of gas.

Yes if you can help it make sure you have a half tank or less as the cap is not at the highest point. I had to siphon my tank when my pump went bad. I just happen to have a full tank of gas. ![](https://5series.net/forums/public/style_emoticons/default/getlost.gif)
An if I remember correctly there was no seal so make sure to order one when you order the filter.

And it was hard to take the nut off so that means PUT IT ON HARD lol.

Yes there is no seal that comes with the unit...mine anyway. I didn't replace that I used my original seal, after tightening nut it wasn't necessary. I would have if it came with one but it didn't so I didn't and it really wasn't necessary either.
I did forget to add that I had two gallons of 93 octane on standby. Filled it up, drove to the gas station, added some good Fuel conditioner/cleaner and then filled her up with 93. Good to go!

I finally got around to doing this. It didn't completely stop my rpm surging issue (which has been diagnosed as a bad trans) but it sure helped with making acceleration smoother. My car has 145k on the clock and definitely needed it. I attached a picture of the gas that poured out of the old filter. Nasty...
