Can anyone here code this for my car? I have all the hardware in and I tried having it coded but the guy said there was no option for the KOMBI rewrite or something.

I would prefer not having a $700 nice looking shifter

I did code the SZL and compared the before and after and there were no changes.

After I remove the 3 torx bits that hold the shifter down + 2 bits that attaches the Emergency Transmission Release to the ECU, the Transmission Release gets in the way of the shifter, and I don't think I can get it out.
So what should I do? Take out the entire center console out? or just wiggle it out?
I saw the DIY sportAT upgrade PDF, but it just says "replace the old one with new one". I'm thinking there might be a step missing since the shifter just doesn't seem to want to come out????
Nevermind I just figured it out.
To answer my own question, in order to take the ECU out:
You just need to wiggle the f(*& out of it, and make sure to not lose any nuts or bolts.

There won't be because don't need to code the SZL for this retrofit. Just code the KOMBI, remove $205 and code in $2TB option and you will get the SPORT logo displayed. To get the full benefit of SAT you need to flash the EGS to the $2TB firmware, otherwise you only get heavier steering and with no other benefits.

FYI, when I added the SAT to my car, the default "Sport" button made my steering way too stiff, especially at stopped/low speeds.

Someone previously mentioned the following 2 values coded in the KGM control the stiff steering:
GESCHWIN_WERTE_SPORT_KGM
STROMWERTE_SPORT_KGM
Mine were set to 'wert_01'. I changed both to 'wert_03'.

Much, much better! Now at stopped/low speeds, you still get power steering assist. At higher speeds, the steering becomes much tighter. I think 'wert_01' practically disables all assist, even at a standstill. The KOMFORT (stock) value is 'wert_09'. I also tried 'wert_04', and could not tell a perceptible difference between non-Sport mode (wert_09).

Hope that helps some people who like me, hate the Sport button with a wert_01 setting.

Hi,
Looking at GKE215.ATS I see that 525i NU71 does not have $2TB firmware, not surprised as it was not available. However ND71 does indeed have $2TB and both of them uses the GA6HP19Z transmission. So I was expecting their $205 to be same.

Excerpt from GKE215.ATS
;Fahrzeugzuordnung (Auftrags-Steuerdatei) vom 13.11.2009 11:51
;TAIS-Abfragedatum (ab) 26.11.2009
NU71;;205;7592110;SE
ND71;;2TB;7592116;SE
ND71;;205;7592120;SE
Anybody has any idea why the $205 firmware is different between 525i and 530i? Also can I just use the 530i $2TB firmware.

525 software is probably designed to rev a bit higher since there isn't as much torque. The 530 software should flash and I imagine it will work, but I don't know if the shift behavior will be ideal for your car

Hi all,

Got my SAT shifter coming tomorrow (finally taking the plunge on this). I won't be adding the wheel though. One thing NoQuarter fails to discuss indepth on his post is what exactly and where to code..

Can anyone help? I have all the relevant software / cable and have been adding and tweaking for a while. Just need to know where, what and how (ie, the VO programming would be new to me)

Thanks

Thanks. What is confusing is that the gear box is exactly the same and so are the engines, excluding the 3 stage intake manifold.

I do not have external power source, so, I should not even attempt this procedure? How long does it take for this process?

It takes seconds (a minute or two tops) to flash the ECU for the GB and I have never needed to keep the voltage topped up.
