Just did that today... didnt apply the voltage to open the solenoids or the compressed air, left them in gasoline for like 10-20 mins... BTW, how much are they?
It seems like the light used to come back when driving grany style, and would go after a while when you push the car ... Normally, I dont usually drive outside 1K to 2K RPM, unless I am in 6th gear or in race mode
Took a test drive (couple of miles), every thing seemed good.. no engine light yet... will find out in next few days .
While at it, I also changed oil/ oil filter and cleaned MAF..
I just bought my scanner ... I wish I knew earlier about INPA... seems great... I was also planning to get NCSExpert for BMW coding, I guess same cable can be used for both purposes?
Is INPA is just for scanning codes or also for coding?

I realize this is an old(er) thread. I have a 2007 X3Si that threw an EML light and severe loss of power. The Stealership found a 2A82 code and recommended replacement of both Vanos solenoids. This is apparently not covered under the CPO warranty (really???) and they quoted $769 to replace both solenoids. I declined. Knowledge is power!

For those of you who are familiar with the YouTube sensation from the UK (who calls himself the BMW Doctor), he's got a new video out about the e60 vanos problems.
He's claiming (one one of his long rants) any type of vanos cleaning is a waste of time and will produce zero results.
Additionally, its imperative to buy new vanos OEM sensors or the engine will never run correctly.
Its logical to think that the vanos sensors and eccentric shaft sensor would last longer if your changed your oil at much shorter intervals?
