Hmmm...

I have a cradle but hardly ever use it

Apart from the obvious (storage and charging of handset) what else does it provide?

If that is the case, then why are there so many connectors in the armrest for the cradles?

There's 18 spaces available in the car wiring to cradle adapter connector; of these, only 12 are used by BMW in the first place (+ HF aerial cable). They all replicate functions that are (should be) available thorugh Bluetooth: audio in/out, phone pick-up (mute stereo) and light dimming (for those that drive looking at a phone in a closed box in the centre console ).

So, the only really additional function is the charging.

The external aerial should give better connection and may be worth having, and those that don't like the Bluetooth 'digital' sound can get direct feed analogue through the connector. All of which is fairly irrelevant if one has a Blackberry...
