Which coolant should I use to replace and flush my coolant system on a 04' 530i? Do we have options other than Bmw Coolant? Also does anyone have a link to the procedure on how to best do this?

Hi,
I am the technical training manager for Prestone coolants. I checked the factroy service information and BMW says your coolant lasts the life of your car and does not have a change interval. That being said, if you do still want to change it, our Prestone all makes coolant is suitable for your car, it is the same type (OAT, organic acid technology) as the original coolant. If you would like the procedrue on how to do it, I can email it to you if you send me a request at Jay.Buckley@Honeywell.com

Why not just drain the radiator using the drain plug, then refill with 50% distilled water and BMW coolant. BMW coolant is less than $20 at the BMW dealer. Simple, cheap ,and no worries.

Yeah, its very easy. I just changed the radiator on my wife's car. There is a drain plug on the lower passenger side of the radiator. You will need to remove the front bellypan to access it. Use BMW coolant and you will be all set. I mix it 50/50 with water. You might not be able to get all the coolant out since a lot of it is sitting in the block. I know my e46 had a drain plug in the block, not so sure on the E90.
Good luck, let me know if you have any further questions.
