i have a 2007 525i with comfort access. its my understanding that if you have comfort access, the keyfob does NOT recharge when in the ignition.

ive done an exhaustive google search to try to find out how to replace the battery in the keyfob, but i have yet to find out 1. what size/model battery the keyfob takes, and 2. the procedure to open the keyfob and replace the battery.

any help is appreciated.

Remove the key from the bottom and pop the cover open. The battery is a CR-2032.

Easy one minute replacement - my dealer replaced both of mine under warranty at about 36 month mark .. iDrive alert (key picture) popped up.

when you say "pop the cover open" do you mean pry apart the entire fob minus the metal key? whats the best way to do this without damaging the key? do you know any sites that have pictures on how to do this safely? i just dont want to damage my key and have to take it in to the dealer for reprogramming, which is what i hear needs to be done if you dont replace the battery within 1 minute.

Some grabs from the owner's manual.
