Check if the tweeter is fully enclosed by the black foam. Just examine a little closedly and you'll find the culprit.

My M5 mirror testing project almost comes to completion. Functional wise, it's 80% successful except folding function. Once I have window switch cluster with mirror folding switch, I'd test for it. It should be done this weekend.

Thanks to BlackonBlackonBlack who has lended me his M5 mirrors and the switch to test out on my car.
Fred,

Good to hear that up beating news. Your sucess will be my dream come true. I have the switch cluster (with mirror folding switch) but not yet purchasing the mirrors. Once you find out the way to enable the folding function, I will get the mirrors.

my530i, did you ever figured out if the auto folding option is working on the US cars with M5 mirrors?

I know it can be done...we saw a 550 with folding M5 mirrors at the last meet. Mine does not fold...but still VERY grateful to Fred for installing them after having them for a year, otherwise $1,400 down the drain!

I am intending on getting some M5 mirrors secondhand, and will probably need to respray them.

Can someone please advise on how to go about masking the glossy black lower covers on the mirror housing, to ensure this does not get coloured.

Or, if the best way is to remove the black bit beforehand can someone please explain the procedure. Is the glass easy to remove ?

Thanks.

Another question. I have seen the M5 mirrors advertised as pre-2005 and post 2005. I understand that the plug changed in 2005. My car is a December 2004 model. If I bought the post 2005 version, could I not just simply remove the plug and replace it with the Pre 2005 plug ? Or have I over simplified matters.

My car does not have electric fold function, if that helps matters.

Thanks people.

Yes you have.

From what I understood during my installation, what you envisage, will not work.

just get the appropriate model for your car, if you have some patience, a nice pair will pop up in ebay (like mine did...)
