Thanks Antti - the later airbags are easier to find on Ebay. Seems like I can now finally get the m-sport steering wheel installed, just have to buy the airbag

i see many round airbags on ebay.....some list that they are compatible with the E60 and some E9x models as well....is this true? or is the round/sport E60 airbag only found on this platform alone?

i need to know as i hunt down my various parts for a steering wheel retrofit...

I don't believe there is an airbag available that is compatible for both models. The E9x airbag is slightly different looking.

Hi,

I'm really interrested in this topic as I just bought from eBay (waiting for shippment) a M Sports Steering Wheel to fit my E61 LCI. I checked the back of the new wheel and it matches the pictures of the beginning of this post for post 09/05 models.

I'm really confident on this mod, but there is still one wondering :

I was told to never unplug the battery on E60/E61 models, as it could reset all calculators, and would need the car to be fully re-coded because many options wouldn't be active at all after repluging the battery ...

Is that true ? Do I need to buy a coding USB/OBD2 cable and the coding software ?

Thanks for answer !

1) That is TOTAL BS, just unplug it.
2) No you don't need them.

Here's another thread too, if you happen to need it: https://5series.net/forums/topic/700..._1#entry782319

That is funny. If you do need any tools to program or re-code let us know!

Anzafin - I was browsing through the site and i see that you had done wrapping on your dash trim. How did this hold up during hot climates? Did you develop bubbling in the vinyl?

Hmm - got a post 2005 airbag. It does not fit mechanically in the 2004 Steering Wheel

I see that the mounting plate looks different between the steering wheel I've got, and the post 2005 one pictured in the previous posts in this thread. So I have taken the chance that the mounting plate from post 2005 Steeting Wheel will fit my 2004 Steering Wheel - AND if it does, the post 2005 airbag will fit too

The plate was only 30 bucks - so I figured it is worth trying.... Have it on order now.

Fingers crossed it will work....
