Hi David and all other's

( Please read this with some humor )

If you say it came out of a M5 , I must belive you , but let me say that after Europian standard it is not , and that you can see becurse your steeringwheel is missing the "M" button ,and the colored threads , normally after starting a M-car you have 400HP right away , then press the "M" button and you get the last 107HP ,( total=507HP ) so It is in the European model's ( I don't know excact about the US model's ) , thats perhaps it is to "comlplicated" for a US driver to "push" a button when he/her also is driving the car , here we Europian perhaps are better to multi-taske , I don't know .

Nice day to All

that is because i used the inner trim and buttons from my old steering wheel (and the bits inside/brain/wiring)
as you rightly say the m button would be useless in my car so i prefered the entertainment change button (diamond)

red lacing was dependant on interior trim

6) At least in year 2003 E60 there is following black switch box which is the "brains" of the steering wheel. You have make place for this one in new steering wheel. I dig the "stuff" out from one of the poles in the new steering wheel and installed this box basically to the same place where it was in my original steering wheel.

I dont understand this whole "digging" part... are you supposed to dremel the foamy-rubber type material out to make a pocket for the brains?

Just to be clear for future readers, the airbag wiring stays the same. The only wires that need to be switched are the horn wires. Move the purple wire in the spot of the missing socket, and then the other ground wire next to it where the purple wire was previously.

Finally figured that out after reading this 100 times.

I know this thread is a bit old, but I have a related question:

I have a 2003 build car and a 2004 M Sport steering wheel but no airbag. Car and steering wheel match fine, but my question is if I can fit any model year airbag? I understand that if the airbag is newer than 2005 I need to do the horn rewiring, but will the newer airbag fit mechanically into the "old" steering wheel?

Thanks,
