thanks but I think he is only selling pre-LCI and non LCI version so looks like I need to take my out.
No problem pinguhk. If I had to do it all over again I probably would not have bought a new cluster. As long as you are careful, taking the existing one apart that's already in your car, is not that big a deal. Providing you feel comfortable doing this type of mod, go for it and let us know how it turns out.

A good tip to paint the needles is to take the cap off and paint the top and inside top. That way there is no white showing.

My current ones are 800 MCD and the ones I've now ordered are 2500 MCD. I want em screaming bright! Ha ha
Well, my 2,500 MCD LEDs arrived from Asia today and although its been a long day, this was one thing I've being waiting to do since I originally did the mod. I swapped out the 800 MCD brightness LEDs for the 2,500 LEDs. Now they are screaming bright, just the way I wanted them. If I need them dimmed, now I can adjust with the dash control.

Good morning Nomis,
The seller I used from eBay was bestshop2008hk. I found a link to a current auction of his for 50 PCs of the 2500 MCD, 3528 LEDs.

http://cgi.ebay.com/50-pcs-POWER-TOP-SMD-SMT-PLCC-2-1210-3528-white-LED-/110558437772?cmd=ViewItem&pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19bdcbe18c
These things are indeed very bright. Even in intense sunlight this morning on the drive into the office, I could see the illumination of the rings around my cluster. With the 800 MCD LEDs I had before I would have never known they were on.

Thanks buddy. How interesting, I will have to see how bright these are compared to the ones I currently have.

Edit: Just checked the specs of the ones I use. The ones I have are 1,500 MCD, wonder if I will see that noticeable of difference

Hello,

I have a 535d of 2006, and i was trying to change my speedmeter lights. I saw your update to the cluster.

Does anyone tried this company to upgrade the speedmeter?

http://cgi.ebay.com/M5-M6-OPTIK-TACHO-UMBAU-WEISS-BMW-5er-E60-E61-E63-E64_W0QQitemZ180526773191QQcategoryZ72978QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3907.m263QQ_trkparmsZalgo%3DSIC%26itu%3DUCI%252BIA%252BUA%252BIEW%252BFICS%252BUFI%252BDDSIC%26otn%3D8%26pmod%3D180556220895%26po%3DLVI%26ps%3D63%26clkid%3D5954966089706019589
I dont want to send my speedmeter from Portugal to Germany, without any local good reply.

Best regards

...All I can say is WOW, and what a great job you did, and then put it in DIY here at the forum, THANKS!!

07. Use a card and a fork to take off the needles, don't use too much force cos they will brake very easy.

08. At the back turn the plastic ring in the center clockwise to undo the ring and panel.

09. Undo the 2 screws with a T9 screw driver.
Attachment 72737

10. Take off the gear for the Cruise Control ring and rev ring.
Attachment 72738

11. You will see the 4 LEDs in each of the ring.
Attachment 72739

12. At the back. The board is fixed to a socket so just undo the board by pulling it up slowly.

15. Use a solder iron to take off the old LEDs .

16. For the new 1s you will need 8 white LEDs. Solder the new white LEDs back on. Each ring will need 4 LEDs. On each led legs there will be a + and - for the power so get a multi meter to test which is which. If solder wrongly it will not light up.

17. On the white case use some double sided tape to sick down the board coz if not the board will not stay in place.
Attachment 72747

18. Spray the ring which ever colour you like.

19. For the needle paint them red.
