Fraseman: is the housing snapped in place also or is it only to remove the screws and give it a good pull? I removed all (I hope) screws incl the one under the air duct (the one that's visible back there but not possible to remove without removing micro filter panel) but it still seems to be stuck there and I'd rather not increase the violence level before someone could give me more info on if there is some hidden screw or some magic touch to make it come loose.

The housing is jam packed with leaves and bugs and I also saw that extra filter still is there, and the air filter itself is incredibly dirty, so I'd really like to clean/change asap.

bal: when you removed the micro filter panels (acc to pics 3, 4 & 5 in this post http://forums.e60.net/index.php?showtopic=70452 ), I assume you could get to the allen screw on top of the filter housing directly under the air duct. Is there another screw back there that's not visible?

Ok that should explain my problems, thanks. I only removed the visible one on top of the housing....I guess then it should be possible to reach the lower one with a flexible extension. I'll give it another try some evening next week.

Hi,

I tried to change my E60 530d Engine air filter, i followed the acrobat guide and removed strut brace etc, but there is one screw on the back left hand side of the box that i just cannot get to!

Has anyone else come across this problem?

P.S I am not refering to the micro filters

yes i had a nightmare removing mine.
i know the 5mm allen bolt you mean. i used a flexible drive about 5 inch long on a ratch srewdriver and a small allen bit 5mm like the one you can buy in screw driver sets.

You also need to remove the strut brace
Does the car need to be on a level surface for the strut brace to be removed?
Or is a level slope ok?
Or better still, can the air filter be changed without removing the strut brace ?

cheers
