Great write up.

The whole trick to bleeding brakes is patience.

Just make sure when you are done the pedal is as hard as a rock or you'll experience the effects of air in the system.

I generally don't use pressure systems.

I first vacuum out the master cylinder with my air powered bleeder assem. Then I fill with new fluid. This gets out any bad effects from the resevoir and prevents them from traveling in the system during the process.

Takes more of the old fluid out faster and makes the process easier.

I then regularly fill the M/C as I bleed each caliper.

I have my bride pump the pedal so I am sure I have bled out everything on each caliper.

Either way is fine though.

Bavauto says I need a $20+ adapter for a 2005 545... from the pictures it looks like I should be ok with the stock twist one.. anyone tried this?

Skip BavAuto and buy the Motive brand. Motive is the OEM for BavAuto.

That's what I have used twice now, works like a charm, also for,those wondering about getting air in the system with this unit it does not!!

I forgot to refill the master and just attached the bleeder with two Qts of new fluid after I sucked out the old fluid, also forgot to pre pressurize it and just pumped it to 20lbs and bled all 4 calipers and still had a qrt in the bleeder when finished, pedal hard as a rock....

An update that may help someone, having used the pressure bleeder now every 2 yrs and not having noticed any color change in the fluid, and was using one litre or slightly more pentosin dot 4 lv. However this time I somehow got air in the system as I just sucked out old fluid from the reservoir and added new and then just pressurized the system and bled all 4 wheels and replenished new fluid once in between to avoid getting air in system. Never did use BMW DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM to do DSC flush till yesterday as it was this time necessary due to air intrusion. And did finally noticed difference in colour coming out during the INPA bleeding process of the DSC. (Likely due to it having been there for at least 8 yrs or more). Also doing this flush as per the INPA and TIS described instructions posted above in some previous post, you will need to have 2 litres on hand just to be on the safe side plus put all that in your power bleeder! Am assuming the same goes if you’re used DIS or any other program.
