Interesting thread!

I intend to continue using my DYI, hard wired, in trunk, direct connected, charger as I have now for five months or so.

Hmmmm, I would like to know when and how my not re-initializing will jump up and bite me.

I do know, Iceman, that the same people who advised you are closely in cahoots with the people who designed a $72K luxury sport sedan with an electrical system that needs a trickle charge if it is not driven in accordance with their preferred ?driving profile?.

And to boot they don?t even supply the freaking charger! I had to go to Home Depot to get mine. Or pay twice as much at the dealer?s parts counter.

Yeah, I know.

And that's why I trust them, since I have been all mad with them.
You really don't want to know how many new batteries I needed so far...

Never. What you are doing has no effect on the IBS or "Pole". All it does is monitor battery voltage to throw errors when it gets too low (even if SOMEONE thinks otherwise).

For those that have not gotten a charger - any float charger will do. Just make sure it's a higher grade - the cheaper you go the worse the components and the higher risk that the circuit will not have a current limit.

Most batteries that die, depending on the extent of the depth of discharge, are repairable. It just takes time and effort - which sometimes is more expensive than buying a new one...

Even if, it's still causing headaches.
