Okay, so I recently installed a Basslink II in my E60, and it definitely helps out on the low end. I'm not trying to impress my neighbors or random people on the street so for me it works.
Now here's my problem, after pumping music for a while, about 30 min., ALL the sound from ALL my speakers cuts out completely EXCEPT for the factory subs under the seats which still emit some sound. Any idea what could be the problem. I used speaker level inputs from the rear for the Basslink if that helps. Oh yeah, I haven't blown any fuses or anything like that and after a while, like 10-20 minutes, the sound comes back on. My guess something's overheating like the factory amp, but I really have no idea. Thanks

Any idea on how to stop this? Do you think a rewire from the amp that drives the sub might help?

You are overheating some where - likely a thermocouple is shutting the speakers down.

Seems you are overheating the factory amp. By splicing into the wires for the level out inputs you are changing the impedence of the circuit. Most amps are only 4 OHM capable by adding another load you are lowering the impedence to 2 or less ohms thus making the amp overheat and shutdown until it cools. I wonder how delicate the amp on the BMW's are. easuest wa yto find out is to use a voltmeter and measure the wires resistence (OHMS) to the amp. With out the line level in..and thanwithout if the resistence changes (goes lower in number) than you know that is the cause of your problem.
I would recommend you tap off the sub amp. Since you are really onmly looking for low level freq anyways. Also bass amps are usually single channel amps and tend to be more stable even when different impedence is introduced.

i have a similar problem, but it is only my aftermarket subwoofer that shuts off... do you guys think it is turning off for the same reason as stated above about the factory amp over heating?? the aftermarket amp stays on...
