Don't ask... don't tell
Obviously, this thread is all about show and tell.

Removing more internal airflow restriction...

Removed ALL internal airflow restrictions.

Unleash the beast within. Or prove me wrong [I guess BMW don't want to let loose all available
"horses" so as not to compete with their top end models. This (our) engine has a lot of potential].

The design of the box/fins is an effect and combination of technical demand vs plastic process limitations vs cost.

To have as short mould process time as possible, and getting the teperature down as fast as possible in the material during de moulding, you always struggle to have thin (Or lets say process optimized) thickness of the walls.

To get the strength needed you then have to add fins instead of extra wall thickness (Standard plastkonstruktionsmodell )

As for the M5 box, the available space for the air box is more limited and therefore the designers would most probably have left the fins out to meet dimensional demand for airflow.
As an effect of that, the box wall thickness is most probably thicker and therfore also more expensive due to longer process time. = not wanted but needed. Or the box is shaped better with less flat surfaces to withstand the under pressure better = no need for fins
Or the material might be different, PA6 or similar. etc...

This is my boring un-sexy, non effect holding back conspiracy explanation from an engineer point of view

And do you not find it funny that the M5 need to block of the extra air duct, whilst the 545i can be optimized with getting one

it seems like a lot of work for very minimal gains. if you think bmw did it to lower the power, then why not just stick a cone filter right on the intake tube, and see if you notice a difference?
