Volunteers required!

I've now added the capability to generate the required idx and url files on the site itself from an input file you upload.

Hopefully those people who are having problems getting perl installed and running locally or who would rather not fiddle about with perl altogether will find this of use, as you no longer have to worry about this particular stage because the web site will generate the required files for you.

I have tested the process and it all appears to work ok but ideally I'd like a few brave souls to try it out for me before I make it publicly available in case I've overlooked any gotchas. Ideally I'd like you to upload your asc input file, download the generated idx and url files and then if you wouldn't mind add them to your dvd image, burn the dvd and tryout in your car.

If you would like to give this a try then please PM me and I'll let you have the required info.

Thanks you
I would be pleased to help if I can. I am currently trying to add POIs to my son's BMV sat nav whose DVD bears the label 07 01. However when looked at the text of the suggested alterations to the ENG.LST file extracted from this it was not the same, particularly the section about images. Your text suggests that GIF files are used and the images used in our DVD are PNG files. The header of the file is:

# Language Specific Contents file
# Generated: Wed Aug 2 23:44:26 2006
# ? Siemens VDO Car Communication, 2006
# Product base name = nccBeu_eu
# Language = ENG

and there are no TPD-ICO lines for the icons but these instead:

ICONDSC 9000 G508-G524-S025/ICONS/RR/POI_GENERAL.PNG+G539-I0+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
ICONDSC 9000 G508-G524-S029/ICONS/NAVI0X/POI_GENERAL.PNG+G539-I1+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!

The file labelled ENG_ORI.TXT is attached.

I have all the necessary software to extract, edit and burn DVDs. Can you advise if this file type is known and if there are any suggested edits for it? Many thanks.

I also would be pleased to assist. I have successfully made a dvd which works a treat on my 57 1 Series but I can't bloody remember which way I burned it as I burned about 3 different dvds in process checking everyone until I had a match. If anyone could assist with the burning process, I would be pleased to share my updated files. One thing I do note is the system does not like 16x DVDs and worked with an 8X DVD+R Tesco brand which costs ?0.97p for a pack of 3. DVD-R will not work as the system does not recognise.

I succeed converting asc to idx+url.

When I open the url file I see the following:

[codebox]CATURL-eng/sf_9000.htm__

[/codebox]

I'm a Belgian user to used the Belgian Speed Camera's. However, in the url file I notice the countrycode UK on each line.
Also the first line show CATURL-eng/sd_9000.htm_

Should I change this in BE or something?

Please advice,

Regards,

Roel

Hi there,

after reading this topic, I have a question.. yes, for now, just one:

Is there any way to convert back the idx and url to asc, so I can for example add more restaurants to the list?

thanks

My Ride: I have a Nov 07 Reg, Silver BMW 320d SE Auto with leather interior, Sat Nav, Bluetooth - not that exciting but I like it! (What else should I know?)
Default

I have now read all of the very detailed and very clear instructions on here and I have to applaud all of you who have succesfully done this.

Now.... me, I am ridiculously lazy and ever so stupid and there is no way I could do this myself. Is there anyone/anywhere I could buy one of these discs? Anyone fancy making me one?

??

Thanks in advance

I support Arms14, I am a complete idiot when it comes to these sort of things. I have looked at the instructions and as good as tey appear, I simply have no idea what they are on about.

I would be more than happy as the previous post to pay somebody for the disc.

Thanks.................................

All, this is a great and helpful site. I wondered if anyone has done this with a 2007-1 DVD as the code in the ENG.LSC has changed a little.

Code:
#ICONDSC <category-id> <data-tree>
ICONDSC	100	G508-G524-S031/ICONS/RR/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG+G539-I0+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
ICONDSC	100	G508-G524-S035/ICONS/NAVI0X/POI_ENTERTAINMENT.PNG+G539-I1+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
ICONDSC	101	G508-G524-S024/ICONS/RR/POI_CINEMA.PNG+G539-I0+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
ICONDSC	101	G508-G524-S028/ICONS/NAVI0X/POI_CINEMA.PNG+G539-I1+G523-I2+G522-I1+G521-I2!
This is not described and what I am trying to figure out. If you notice this is a link to the icon. Most of the numbers are the same except the 4 chaacters before the /ICONS/. I have not been able to figure out what these numbers represent and some are repeated. Any ideas?

FYI, that PERl script is great!
Would anyone have a Torrent of the 2007 - 1 DVD for europe? I am desperatley seeking one and would appriciate a copy. Thanks!

Hi all,

I have successfully carried out the mod to my dvd, but l want to upgrade me POI with updated POI from pocketgps. How ever, l need to extract info from the idx file and l am not a Perl guru. Can any one help me out pls?

What l am after is the reverse of the script from perl that changes .asc files into .idx & .url. Once in .asc/.csv l will be able to compare data and update only those poi missing.
