My Ride: 2004 545i
I have a 2004 545, I was wondering where is the dipstick located or if it even has one. I am thinking about doing my on diy on the oil change. Thanks

My Ride: I have an 05 545i. It's a manual with a few options. This is my first BMW but I don't know how I'll ever be able to switch to something else.

On my 04, I use a 36mm socket to remove the oil filter cap, and to tighten it I believe it's 25 lbs.. I'm not too sure, but it says it on the filter cap itself. You'll need a 17mm for the drain plug.
36mm socket? That's wierd my '05 used a 24mm socket for the oil filter housing
Also, it's not 25 lb. ft. the housing says 25 nm. which translated to lb. ft. is ~18 lb. ft.

How do you all get away with not using the special oil filter housing removal tool? My filter housing is a lot bigger then 36 mm (1.4 ").
