Depending on the weather if its sunny all week ill handwash every 10 days or 3X a month. I try not to wash to much. Washing to me is like the elements. If my car was garaged kept id probably do less washing and, break out the california duster more often. Ill give a good detail at least every 2 months which inlcudes engine cleaning ,trunk sills, tire scrubbing, wheel wells, carpet shampooing etc..

My Ride: 2008 Sapphire Black on Black M5 - loaded sans soft close doors
In the old days I never would take my car through a car wash.
But as said above... I'm older now and approx once a month I take my car to an automated wash where believe it or not they do a decent job (I like having my windows cleaned too!). My OEM 124s have been fine and now that I've got my 138s on for the winter they do fine too. I occasionally see some light surface scratches that wax off very easily.
I personally do not like the touchless car washes - that much pressure to get the dirt off just scares the crap out of me. I also stay away from gas station washes. Just my 2 cents.

My car gets hand washed and two coats of wax every friday night. I try to get it polished every 6 months, but its now been a year and a month and my car still looks brand new. The price for every friday, is 10USD, that is I bring my own wax. 10USD includes, wash, vacuum, odor elimination (they stick this machine in my car for like 10 minutes and all the smell is gone), and 2 coats of wax (I bring my own wax).
Note: I have a Sapphire Black Mettalic car, so keeping this car clean is like a part time job for me, besides school.
