A friend of mine has recently observed some large quantity of melted chewing gum on the exterior of her Jet Black SUV. It is all white and has melted at this stage as she has not done anything to remove it so so far- in order to avoid any paint damage.

What is the appreopriate way to remove it as well and possible re-finish this area after the removal? Any advice/ insight / experiance will be highly appreciated. Thanks

Hi, There are a lot of ways to get rid of it.
I had a chewing gum sticked on my exterior e60, so I went to a detail shop.
They used 3M to clean it.
Yesterday, My e46 had chewing gums at the back of the body. But this time, instead of wasting my money to go to the detail shop. I use 10 drops of gasoline and apply it to a microfiber towel and rub it gently. and it's totally gone. Don't forget to dry it afterwards though.
Good Luck

Thanks ..when you mentioned that the detail shop used 3M to clean it. Could you kindly elaborate as what actual 3M product they used to clean it with.? Thanks

Peanut butter?

Actually, I figure that a tar/bug remover would do the job just fine. I'm sure you could find a bottle at your local hardware store in a automotive care section.

Or you could try the old ice cube routine ... freeze it and try and pop it off with your fingers.

I had some om my vehicle last weekend. I used some Goof Off on it. Squirt some on the gum, let it sit a few minutes and wipe off with a soft cloth. repeat if needed.

The 3M product was probably what they call Adhesive Remover. I have some of that as well and have used it to remove tar. Note that it will also remove the wax.

I'd recommend washing the area with carwash soap and water after using either product and then rewaxing the area.
