Hand wash in the summer and apply 6 coats of Zaino to get through the carwashes in the winter.
Mike's Carwash here is pretty good - they don't use recycled water, only felt swabs, and plastic protectors on the wheel guides. So far it's looking good.

Hand wash only. After seeing the swirl marks on my black Lexus following a "courtesy" dealer wash following a maintenance service, I do NOT let any dealer do a courtesy wash on my car at any time.
Even the "hand" car washes here in SoCal are not safe, especially if they run it through the tunnel -- the hand "washers" are often lazy and use a brush (i.e., swirls) at the end of a broom stick to clean the lower extremities of the car.
I wash every other week the old fashioned way....

I take it to a car wash, what uses textile stripes only. The car actually looks better than when I wash it by hand. It doesn't harm the paint at all. But I am in the lucky situation, that we have one of the modernest car washes in the world here in Frankfurt. They just bought new machines for the cost of 800,000.-?.

I wash by hand as a sort of therapy. I take my time and then reward myself with a cold beer. Here in So. Cal we don't have to worry too much about the cold although it did rain this past weekend.

I hand wash all year round. Not as frequently in the winter when its raining all the time - I don't do as thorough a job but I try to keep it reasonably clean.

Dark colored cars are hard to keep clean and swirl free.
Check out Zaino, Mothers, Griots Garage, 3M, Meguiars, Klasse, (for example) for products that can remove swirls. Check out this link<---.

I always hand wash my Dads E60
Even in the winter time here in Sweden. But I have a place where I can be inside, where temprature is 20C
Thats the best way of getting a nice shinny car.. The car is "paint protected" so it's so easy to wash....
Hand wash all the time

I usually go to a car wash but they do 100% hand wash there. 15 bucks (+tip) per wash. I won't waste couple of hours of my time washing my car. Waste of time.
